D'Mani Washington    Tyeshia pt 1   Pen  8 x 11 1/2 in  4/27/2022

This is the first of my "Evolution" pictures, and I usually start with a gesture drawing to understand the way the person's body will be. Since Tyeshia was laying down, but her upper body was propped up, I  knew I had to mark the shape of her body but also where her pelvis was twisted inwards.
D'Mani Washington   Tyeshia pt.2  Pen 8 x 11 1/2 in  4/27/2022

As part 2, I will go back and begin to construct more shape and definition of the body. However, I forgot to draw Tyeshia and her room collectively, so the perspective aspects of the drawing suffered a bit.
D'Mani Washington    Tyeshia pt.3   Pen  8 x 11 1/2 in  4/27/2022
'll
This is a final of Tyeshia, complete with light shading. Sometimes I'll add more detail to the picture, but for the most part I'll leave the picture like this. I used to be afraid to use pen or ink because it was so permanent. But, using pens made me have more confidence in my strokes and really pay attention
D'Mani Washington    The Fruit Bowl    Oil Pastel    8 1/2 x 11   4/23/2022

I used a more chalk-like oil pastel, rather than a more waxy one because the color spread a lot better on the paper. However, allowing the pigment to be easily spread also made it easier for the pigment to end up on my skin too. Even though it was a bit messy for me, it was still fun figuring out how to keep the colors vibrant.
D'Mani Washington    Hand Still Life  4B Pencil    8 1/2 x 11   4/23/2022

I chose this position of my hand because it has both the inside and outside of my hands, so it provided a much better challenge for me. I also have very long nails, so really understanding the shape of my nail bed extending into the nail was a good exercise for me.
D'Mani Washington    Crumpled Paper   Ink   8 1/2 x 11   4/23/2022

For this exercise, I thought it was really cool to draw this piece of paper, as I've never done anything like this before. The most difficult thing for me was doing the different tones and shades on the piece of paper, especially since I used a ballpoint pen but it was cool.
D'Mani Washington    Draped Fabric Still Life   4B pencil    8 1/2 x 11   4/24/2022

This still life was were I tried to add more line variation, having the area where the light was strongest be the most blurred.
D'Mani Washington    Meet Sack   Adobe Animate  1280 x 720px  24fps

I'm the most proud of this animation because everything turned out so well. This is a typical flour sack animation, but I decided to think of a more fun storyline within the short. I really enjoyed making this as I saw it come to life and added little things in.
D'Mani Washington    Alesha Turnaround    Digital   1640 x 2360px  3/21/2022

This is my character Alesha Richardson, a girl who aspires to be a car designer and is a very lively girl. This was one of the first times I felt that the character I created had really good shape language and color palate.
D'Mani Washington    What's Going On?   Digital   2048 x 2048px   4/10/2022

This is Alesha again with the secondary part of who she is: aspiring mystery novelist Linus. In the story, the adventures that they experience together is through  her point of view.
D'Mani Washington    The Dance Storyboard    Digital   3508 x 2480px  4/25/2022

Another part of animation that I'm thinking about doing is storyboarding. These scenes are from my final in animation where the protagonist just finished watching a Bollywood movie and ends up starring in her own. I like how storyboarding is used for film and television and hope to use more of it. The most challenging part of storyboarding for me is understanding the camera angles, which I tried to use more dramatic ones in this one and adequate lighting.
D'Mani Washington    Self Portrait Sketch   Pencil  7 x 10in  4/13/2022

This self-portrait of myself was for a drawing assignment, and it was the first time I looked at the mirror for the majority of the time rather than the paper. I was a little nervous about doing this, mainly because I have struggled with facial anatomy in the past. But I actually really liked it when I did draw it and was even more surprised at how accurate it looked! I would go back and make the shading a lot more uniformed and varied than it is here.
D'Mani Washington    One Point Perspective Interior   Pencil   8 1/2 x 11  6/7/2021

This is a drawing of my room prior to its current state. Until then, I had not done a lot of perspective drawings, as this was yet another area of drawing I was very weak in. However, I found that keeping the lines in the picture helped me to keep the perspective right. I liked that I was able to keep a lot of the detail without compromising the object they belong to.
D'Mani Washington    Still Life Sketches    Pencil   8.5 x 11 in.  6/28/2021

At the top are some hair products and below are a pair of crocs I own. i also began implementing warming up my hands before I draw with lines, swirls and other exercises like the right corner shows.
